It has been more than 100 years since its upbringing and Audi cars continue to dazzle the public with its innovative and flashy style. On November 14, 1899 August Horch established the company in the district of Cologne.
In 1901 the first Audi car was built and the company has not looked back since
Audi has been one of the leading manufacturers in the world since its beginning, and there is no question that there modernity and innovativeness has had something to do with that. For example, in 1921 Audi introduced the first German car manufacturer to present a production car with left-hand drive. From this time on, many manufacturers switched to the left-hand drive model because of the better visibility it gave drivers.
In 1953 the company launched its 3=6 Sonderklasse, which was a new three-cylinder vehicle. It was called this because it refers to the fact that the three cylinder-two stroke engine had the power similar to that of a six-cylinder four-stroke engine. This was something that was not common, making this yet another innovation in the eyes of car seekers.
While Audi has produced a number of fascinating cars, in the 1950’s they were producing a large amount of motorcycles to please the public. In fact, in 1955 NSU announced a total production of over 340,000 motorcycles. This made it the world’s leading manufacturer of motorcycles and people were demanding them in full force.
In 1963 they introduced their first open-top two-seater, which was called the Wankel Spider. This vehicle had a single-rotor rotary piston engine at the rear, which was yet another way Audi stayed ahead of the competition. The new engine style helped compress the fuel and air mixture of the car.
At the Geneva Motor Show car fans were yet again bazzled in 1980 with the introduction of the Audi Quattro. The Audi Quattro was a four-wheel drive sports coupe that was truly the first high-performance vehicle with four-wheel drive. Because of the overwhelming response this got, the four-wheel drive was later introduced into the entire Audi model range.
The 90’s brought such cars as the Audi Quattro Spyder and the Audi Avus Quattro, two sensational sports cars. The use of aluminum for the bodyshells helped introduce the future use of a lightweight construction that Audi would use in many of their cars. There have been several other models introduced in the 90’s and all the way through 2007, maintaining Audi’s professionalism and constant modernity. After 108 years of production, Audi continues to be one of the leading car manufacturers and shows no sign of letting down any time soon.
