History of Mercedes Benz

When you think of automobiles and luxury, you think of Mercedes-Benz.  Mercedes- Benz has had an impact on every era in automotive history with its constant modernity and impeccable innovativeness.  Over the past 120 years, Mercedes-Benz has presented the public with some of the finest

vehicles on the market. The history all begins with a little tricycle that was created in 1886 by Carl Benz.  Seven years later in 1893, Benz built his first four-wheeler that he called Victoria.  From that point on, Benz took off building his first production car in 1894 and his first truck in 1895.  The first production car he created, the Benz Velo, actually participated in the first recorded car race, the Paris-Rouen race.

On November 22, 1907 Gottlieb Daimler produced a special car for Emil Jellinek.  The car was lighter and much smaller than previously built cars, and had a 35 hp engine and a top speed of 55 mph.  Jellinek named the car Mercedes after his 10-year-old daughter, and the company name stuck from then on.

Although Mercedes Benz was popular, in the beginning of 1900 a majority of the vehicles in the US were Ford.  However, the agreement between DMG and Benz brought to strong companies together changing everything.  The Mercedes-Benz diesel truck was put into production in 1927 and their automobile production had risen to 7,918 the same year.

In 1930, Mercedes-Benz launched their most prestigious car to date, the 770 Grosser.  The 770 Grosser had an 8 cylinder, 7.6 liter engine and was truly a car for the luxurious.  This vehicle, along with many other Mercedes-Benz cars produced great racing success.  It helped bring notoriety to the company and get the name spread around the world.  The W125 along won seven out of thirteen races in 1937, while reaching speeds of up to 200mph.

Some of the latest cars produced by Mercedes-Benz include the 2007-CLS class and the 2007-S class.  Both of these models offer some of the most luxurious vehicles to date from the elegant company.  The GL class has a 4.8 liter V8 engine that delivers 335 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque.

After 120 years of production, Mercedes-Benz is creating more vehicles than ever.  From a tiny tricycle to a 335 hp V8 engine produced today, Mercedes-Benz has stayed with and ahead of their competition from the beginning.  Their constant need and desire to deliver what the public is looking for, they have stayed atop of the automotive industry for many years.  With their constant hard work and development, Mercedes-Benz has truly been a luxurious company that you can count on.
